Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. Fourth Mode. Psalm 15.3,8.
Among the saints who are in his land, the Lord has been wondrous.
Verse: I see the Lord before me continually.

The reading is from St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 12:27-31; 13:1-8.

Brethren, you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, then healers, helpers, administrators, speakers in various kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love is not jealous or boastful; it is not arrogant or rude. Love does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrong, but rejoices in the right. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.

Gospel Reading

5th Sunday of Luke
The Reading is from Luke 16:19-31

The Lord said, "There was a rich man, who was clothed in purple and fine linen and who feasted sumptuously every day. And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazaros, full of sores, who desired to be fed with what fell from the rich man's table; moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. The poor man died and was carried by the angels to Abraham's bosom. The rich man also died and was buried; and in Hades, being in torment, he lifted up his eyes, and saw Abraham far off and Lazaros in his bosom. And he called out, 'Father Abraham, have mercy upon me, and send Lazaros to dip the end of his finger in water and cool my tongue; for I am in anguish in this flame.' But Abraham said, 'Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and Lazaros in like manner evil things; but now he is comforted here, and you are in anguish. And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, in order that those who would pass from here to you may not be able, and none may cross from there to us.' And he said, 'Then I beg you, father, to send him to my father's house, for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them, lest they also come into this place of torment.' But Abraham said, 'They have Moses, and the prophets; let them hear them.' And he said, 'No, father Abraham; but if some one goes to them from the dead, they will repent.' He said to them, 'If they do not hear Moses and the prophets, neither will they be convinced if some one should rise from the dead.'"

Saints and Feasts

November 01

Cosmas and Damianos the Holy Unmercenaries and their mother Theodota

These Saints were from Asia (that is, Asia Minor). After the death of their father, their Christ-loving mother Theodota reared them in piety and in all manner of virtue, and had them instructed in every science, especially that of medicine. This became their vocation, and they went about healing every illness and malady, bestowing healing freely on both men and beasts alike; because of this, they are called "Unmercenaries." And thus, having completed the course of their life, they reposed in peace.

Wisdom of the Fathers

...every tree is known by its own fruit. So also is love known by its own fruit and the love of which Christianity speaks is known by its own fruit - revealing that it has in itself the truth of the eternal. All other love, whether humanly speaking it withers early and is altered or lovingly preserves itself for a round of time - such love is still transient; it merely blossoms. This is precisely its weakness and tragedy, whether it blossoms for an hour or for seventy years - it merely blossoms; but Christian love is eternal.
Soren Kierkegaard
Works of Love, Chapter 1; Harper Torchbooks pg. 25, 19th century

Memorial

As part of the Philoptochos mission of Christian love and care for all, the Ladies Philoptochos offer a Memorial Service for our departed Philoptochos sisters, benefactors, and parishioners. We also lovingly remember those faithful stewards of our parish family who left no relatives to offer memorial prayers on their behalf. Through these prayers, we remember all God's children, both living and departed.

May their memory be eternal.

Agape Coffee Fellowship

Coffee Hour Support Initiative - November & December

We encourage first-time Coffee Hour hosts to participate during November and December!

To make hosting easier and more enjoyable, a member of the Coffee Hour Committee will be present each Sunday to provide hands-on guidance, assistance, and support every step of the way.

This is a special opportunity that differs from our usual Coffee Hour schedule, as our coordinators will be actively involved and available throughout the event to help hosts succeed. If you've ever considered hosting but felt unsure about what's involved, this is the perfect time to give it a try!

We warmly invite you to step forward and share in this ministry of fellowship and hospitality. Hosting Coffee Hour is a wonderful way to connect with fellow parishioners, welcome visitors, and help strengthen our church community. With support by your side, all you need to bring is a willing heart. We hope you'll consider signing up and giving it a try!

 Coffee Fellowship Sign Up

Thank you to our Ladies Philoptochos for hosting and sponsoring today’s Coffee Fellowship.

Philoptochos lovingly organizes and supports our weekly Agape Coffee Fellowship, creating a welcoming space where hearts connect and our parish family grows closer. We warmly invite every steward and family to continue nurturing and supporting this beautiful ministry.

We encourage each steward and family to consider offering a Coffee Hour once a year — a simple and meaningful act of love and hospitality toward our parish family. All essentials are provided, and treats are always optional. Support is available for first‑time hosts or whenever assistance is desired.

Your contributions help sustain this weekly gathering and allow us to continue offering it with joy and care. A typical Coffee Hour costs about $50, and for those who feel moved to contribute, a collection basket is available each Sunday, along with a convenient QR code for online donations.

Thank you for helping us nurture a warm, welcoming, and joyful gathering for all.

If you'd like to be a hostess or host please sign up on line or contact Danai Sachinidou, Linda Dallaku or Betsy Ern at [email protected].

For Agape Fellowship Sponsoring opportunities/availability please contact Margot Racano at [email protected].

Ladies Philoptochos

Monthly Commitment – November

During the month of November, our Philoptochos chapter supports the Ecumenical Patriarchate Fund, and the National Sisterhood of Presbyteres Benevolent Fund. Join us as we celebrate the Feast Day of our Patron Saints and the 85th Anniversary of our Philoptochos Chapter. Philoptochos sisters, family, and friends are warmly invited to participate in the Divine Liturgy and share in this special day of thanksgiving and fellowship.

An Artoklasia will be offered for the health and well-being of our stewards, benefactors, and supporters. Following the Divine Liturgy, all are invited to an Agape Fellowship, graciously sponsored and hosted by Philoptochos, in appreciation of the faithful parishioners whose generosity sustains the ministries of our parish.

We look forward to celebrating this joyful milestone together as we give thanks to God for eighty-five years of faithful service, philanthropy, and Christian love.

Parish Family Synaxis

Sunday, November 1, after Divine Liturgy

You're invited to our first Parish Family Synaxis. ("Synaxis" is a Greek word meaning "gathering" or "assembly"--a coming together of the community.) Much like a family gathers for a house meeting, this will be an informal time for us to catch up with one another and strengthen the bonds of community.  We'll first hear brief 2- to 3-minute ministry snapshots in the Church from select parish ministries and later have an open opportunity for questions and conversation at our Agape Coffee Fellowship in the hall--without the formalities of a General Assembly, motions, or minutes.

We plan to hold a Parish Family Synaxis every couple of months so we can hear one another, share what God is doing through the ministries, and stay better connected as a parish family.  The next synaxis is scheduled for Sunday, January 24, 2027.  All are warmly welcome.  Come, stay, listen, and share.

Thank you for your kind assistance in supporting this worthy cause.

General Assembly Meeting

Sunday, November 22, after Divine Liturgy

We warmly invite all stewards in good standing to join us for our Fall General Assembly.  This is an important time for us to come together as a parish family, hear updates, and more formally help shape the year ahead.  Agenda items will include: 2027 Budget | Parish Council Nominations & Elections | Committee Nominations & Appointments | 2026 Festival Report.

Looking ahead, we are working toward holding two General Assemblies each calendar year. The next Assembly is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, May 16, 2027.  Your voice and presence matter.  We hope you'll be with us.

Children’s Saint Books and Sensory bags

We are so blessed to see our children eagerly reading the saint books that are available in the vestibule during Divine Liturgy! However, our collection has decreased from 125 books to 43. If any of these books accidentally made their way home with your family, kindly return them to the church so these wonderful stories can be shared with everyone.

We are also missing a few sensory bags. When possible, please return them to be cleaned and put back in rotation. Thank you.
