Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. Fourth Mode. Psalm 103.24,1.
O Lord, how manifold are your works. You have made all things in wisdom.
Verse: Bless the Lord, O my soul.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 2:16-20.

Brethren, knowing that a man is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the law, because by works of the law shall no one be justified. But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we ourselves were found to be sinners, is Christ then an agent of sin? Certainly not! But if I build up again those things which I tore down, then I prove myself a transgressor. For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Gospel Reading

6th Sunday of Luke
The Reading is from Luke 8:26-39

At that time, as Jesus arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, there met him a man from the city who had demons; for a long time he had worn no clothes and he lived not in a house but among the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beseech you, do not torment me." For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many a time it had seized him; he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters, but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the desert.) Jesus then asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion"; for many demons had entered him. And they begged him not to command them to depart into the abyss. Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter these. So he gave them leave. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. When the herdsmen saw what happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country. Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. And those who had seen it told them how he who had been possessed with demons was healed. Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them; for they were seized with great fear; so he got into the boat and returned. The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him; but he sent him away, saying, "Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you." And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.

Saints and Feasts

October 26

Demetrios the Myrrh-streamer & Great Martyr of Thessaloniki

Saint Demetrius was a Thessalonian, a most pious son of pious and noble parents, and a teacher of the Faith of Christ. When Maximian first came to Thessalonica in 290, he raised the Saint to the rank of Duke of Thessaly. But when it was discovered that the Saint was a Christian, he was arrested and kept bound in a bath-house. While the games were under way in the city, Maximian was a spectator there. A certain friend of his, a barbarian who was a notable wrestler, Lyaeus by name, waxing haughty because of the height and strength of his body, boasted in the stadium and challenged the citizens to a contest with him. All that fought with him were defeated. Seeing this, a certain youth named Nestor, aquaintance of Demetrius', came to the Saint in the bath-house and asked his blessing to fight Lyaeus single-handed. Receiving this blessing and sealing himself with the sign of the precious Cross, he presented himself in the stadium, and said, "O God of Demetrius, help me!" and straightway he engaged Lyaeus in combat and smote him with a mortal blow to the heart, leaving the former boaster lifeless upon the earth. Maximian was sorely grieved over this, and when he learned who was the cause of this defeat, he commanded straightway and Demetrius was pierced with lances while he was yet in the bath-house, As for Nestor, Maximian commanded that he be slain with his own sword.

Wisdom of the Fathers

For if we, going about on the earth which is familiar and well known to us, being encompassed with a body, when we are journeying in a strange road, know not which way to go unless we have some one to lead us; how should the soul, being rent away from the body, and having gone out from all her accustomed region, know where to walk without one to show her the way?
St. John Chrysostom
Homily 28 on Matthew 8, 4th Century

Agape Coffee Fellowship

Coffee Hour Support Initiative - November & December

We encourage first-time Coffee Hour hosts to participate during November and December!

To make hosting easier and more enjoyable, a member of the Coffee Hour Committee will be present each Sunday to provide hands-on guidance, assistance, and support every step of the way.

This is a special opportunity that differs from our usual Coffee Hour schedule, as our coordinators will be actively involved and available throughout the event to help hosts succeed. If you've ever considered hosting but felt unsure about what's involved, this is the perfect time to give it a try!

We warmly invite you to step forward and share in this ministry of fellowship and hospitality. Hosting Coffee Hour is a wonderful way to connect with fellow parishioners, welcome visitors, and help strengthen our church community. With support by your side, all you need to bring is a willing heart. We hope you'll consider signing up and giving it a try!

 Coffee Fellowship Sign Up

Thank you to Cheryl Pyers and Betsy Ern for hosting today’s Coffee Fellowship.

Thank you to Adriana and Paul Stamati for sponsoring today’s Coffee Fellowship in loving memory of their parents Alexandru, Dumitra, Marcel and Florica.

Philoptochos lovingly organizes and supports our weekly Agape Coffee Fellowship, creating a welcoming space where hearts connect and our parish family grows closer. We warmly invite every steward and family to continue nurturing and supporting this beautiful ministry.

We encourage each steward and family to consider offering a Coffee Hour once a year — a simple and meaningful act of love and hospitality toward our parish family. All essentials are provided, and treats are always optional. Support is available for first‑time hosts or whenever assistance is desired.

Your contributions help sustain this weekly gathering and allow us to continue offering it with joy and care. A typical Coffee Hour costs about $50, and for those who feel moved to contribute, a collection basket is available each Sunday, along with a convenient QR code for online donations.

Thank you for helping us nurture a warm, welcoming, and joyful gathering for all.

If you'd like to be a hostess or host please sign up on line or contact Danai Sachinidou, Linda Dallaku or Betsy Ern at [email protected].

Parish Family Synaxis

Sunday, November 1, after Divine Liturgy

You're invited to our first Parish Family Synaxis. ("Synaxis" is a Greek word meaning "gathering" or "assembly"--a coming together of the community.)

Much like a family gathers for a house meeting, this will be an informal time for us to catch up with one another and strengthen the bonds of community.  We'll first hear brief 2- to 3-minute ministry snapshots in the Church from select parish ministries and later have an open opportunity for questions and conversation at our Agape Coffee Fellowship in the hall--without the formalities of a General Assembly, motions, or minutes.  We plan to hold a Parish Family Synaxis every couple of months so we can hear one another, share what God is doing through the ministries, and stay better connected as a parish family.  The next one is scheduled for Sunday, January 24, 2027.  All are warmly welcome.  Come, stay, listen, and share.

General Assembly Meeting

Sunday, November 22, after Divine Liturgy

We warmly invite all stewards in good standing to join us for our Fall General Assembly.  This is an important time for us to come together as a parish family, hear updates, and more formally help shape the year ahead.  Agenda items will include: 2027 Budget | Parish Council Nominations & Elections | Committee Nominations & Appointments | 2026 Festival Report.

Looking ahead, we are working toward holding two General Assemblies each calendar year. The next Assembly is tentatively scheduled for Sunday, May 16, 2027.  Your voice and presence matter.  We hope you'll be with us.

Children’s Saint Books and Sensory bags

We are so blessed to see our children eagerly reading the saint books that are available in the vestibule during Divine Liturgy! However, our collection has decreased from 125 books to 43. If any of these books accidentally made their way home with your family, kindly return them to the church so these wonderful stories can be shared with everyone.

We are also missing a few sensory bags. When possible, please return them to be cleaned and put back in rotation. Thank you.
