Always a Spiritual Focus, First
Dearest Parish Families,
Blessed Palm Sunday to us all, this Sunday. And a future Christos Anesti, coming during Holy Week. It is this week that we travel with Jesus. It is truly happening now. Just as we were sharing during our five zoom presentations in the Church, over these past five weeks of Great Lent, when we were sharing that God lives in the eternal present. For God, there is no past or future—because God is simultaneous in every second of the past, and the present, and the future. It is only we humans who are trapped in the narrative of our lives, with a beginning, a middle, and an end.
This is the way that every Holy Week for us is happening right now to Jesus Christ. This is how we are able to follow him during the onslaught of his Great Passion and sacrifice to bring us salvation. I can’t stress enough to you all how important this point is. We may always fanticize about time travel. But for God and Jesus Christ, they are the truest time travellers—in that they exist in every single moment of history and of now.
This means that this is our chance to follow Christ on his way to Golgotha, to crucifixion, and to Resurrection. Honestly, this is the greatest reality in human history. And to think, we can partake of this Resurrection. All we have to do is come to church and attend, and believe by our witnessing and experiencing. I still can’t believe how huge this occasion is. Each year, we have this chance to participate with Jesus Christ again. What we may bring is our measure of faith, our measure of fasting, our measure of offering anything back to God.
Please, you are so invited to join us together, be a witness together with us all for the sacrifice and salvation of Jesus Christ. Come every evening of Holy Week. There is no evening service that is “more popular” than another evening service of Holy Week. For each service builds onto the next service. It’s as much about Holy Sunday evening service as it is about Friday’s Lamentations service. And Holy Saturday night’s service of Resurrection, culminating in Holy Communion. It’s all here for you as a member of our parish family. So, be here with us.
Faithfully, Father Samaras
