Always a Spiritual Focus, First
Dearest Parish Families,
After Easter, it is traditional in our church services that the liturgical readings of the Epistles are replaced for a time by readings from the Book of Acts. In my sermon and sharing from last Sunday, I asked everybody to please open their Bibles at home and simply read the Book of Acts, which would take you maybe thirty minutes to read.
Honestly, I can’t say enough of how important is the Book of Acts. It is vitally important for all of us to read and absorb. The Book of Acts contains the beginning of our whole Church. It contains the three visions of Saint Peter that testify to everybody that it is no longer the Jewish nation who are the “chosen people” of God—but now all of us are. This is crucial to our understanding of our Christian lives with God.
The recent past reading from the Book of Acts spoke about the Disciples choosing seven deacons to help serve not only the Jewish widows but also the Greek widows and families. This ministry opens the concept of “chosen people” to everybody. This is what we have inherited. It is all of our relationships with God, with Christ, in Christ. This is our inheritance.
As we listen to this Sunday’s continuance of the birth and outreach of our Christian faith and Church, please come to understand our place in our Church, by coming together for Church worship and fellowship. Please be counted as a steward in our parish, so we can survive and continue our ministries to all. Please read the Books of Acts all the way through, and come and ask me questions about it, so we may all share and be enriched. Every Sunday service is built on the previous Sunday service. This is how our knowledge and understanding grow.
See you here,
Faithfully, Father Samaras
5th Morning Gospel Lesson
Sunday of the Paralytic
On May 11, we spiritually commemorate the Birthday, i.e. the Dedication, of the City of Constantinople, which was dedicated especially to our holy Lady the Theotokos; the holy Hieromartyr Mokios; the holy Martyr Dioskoros of Smyrna; the holy Neo-martyr Argyros of Thessaloniki; our Fathers among the Saints Cyril (869) and Methodios (885) of Thessaloniki, Equals-of-the-Apostles, and illuminators of the Slavs. And today, the fourth Sunday of Pascha, we remember the Paralytic, and appropriately celebrate the miracle worked on him.
