FATHER SAMARAS
ALWAYS A SPIRITUAL FOCUS FIRST
Dearest Parishioners and Friends,
This Sunday coming, in a few more days, is Sunday, October 23rd. And I think to ask you, "How was your week for you?" For me, besides the reality of work and duty, my week was okay: the days somehow seem to pass by faster, the more we begin to age. We blink and the days go by. My response to that is to keep praying, striving to make each day meaningful. If we can do that, even for a few days in a row, at least we sensitise ourselves to improvement, to noticing not only our surrounding by also our inner selves. by bean, the container is filled." It is not for nothing that perhaps my favourite refrain, said multiple times in our Divine Liturgy, is the exhortation that Saint John Chrysostom uses at a frequent pace during critical times in our service, in which he says, "Proskomen," which for me to translate would mean not "Let us be attentive," but more powerfully means "Pay attention."
I invite you to listen for this word, the next time you attend and follow our Divine Liturgy. I'm always pleasantly charged when I hear where in the Divine Liturgy this word and exhortation comes. It's amazing. The critical points are made for us to pay attention, this is happening now, we need to wake up and follow along, understanding what is happening.
It's just like our work-week: we can either be numb to it, lift our heads and we've lost the days in a blur; or we can pay attention and make our days and time as meaningful as possible.
This is the prayer I share with you today, in my greeting to you. How was your week? What did you find in it that is worth remembering, worth holding onto, whatever we were able to share?
I would love to see you in our Church this Sunday. Maybe we could share the wisdom of the Gospel, so it can help our lives, help our next week coming. Maybe we can sit together at our fellowship hour after the Liturgy and have some quality time.
It is our prayer that all of our souls together may gather here at our parish family and parish community for all of us to be strengthened, focusing on spiritual growth and human fellowship. You are all so welcomed to join with us here in our parish home.
Faithfully, Father Samaras
