When an Orthodox Christian repents & comes to the sacrament of Holy Confession, God grants forgiveness of sins and helps him or her in the struggle against the passions and the influence of the evil one. We have a printed booklet with useful information that helps the faithful better prepare for the Sacrament of Holy Confession. It is available free of charge for everyone who wishes to use it. Pick up your copy today from the table outside the Church office. To make an appointment for confession, call Fr. Peter directly on his cell, 973-650-9717.

St. Paraskevi Philoptochos Sandwich Sunday:
Our ladies will be making sandwiches today for the homeless. Our goal is to make a minimum of 225 sandwiches each time. Any donation to help defray the cost is greatly appreciated. It is a wonderful way to remember a loved one, or a special occasion. This month’s sandwiches are being sponsored by Helga & Panos Diamandopoulos in memory of their parents. Feeding the hungry is an important tenet of our mission to help the needy.
Sunday School Infant, Toddler, Parent Playroom:
Our Sunday School has a very special parent-and-me playroom designed specifically for children under the age of three. After Holy Communion, parents are invited to bring their children down to the classroom and join the fun. This is a great opportunity for parents and children to meet and play while they wait for the older children to finish their Sunday School lessons. A few reminders: this room is designed for younger children (under 3 years of age), and an adult must accompany every child. We also ask that you teach your children and assist them in cleaning up when you are finished playing. Most importantly, have fun utilizing this special place.
“Hometown Hug Box” – Care Packages for College Students:
Our St. George Community is thinking of our young adults who are continuing their education, whether locally or away at college. We would love to send them a little sunshine from home in a “Hometown Hug Box”! Donations to help offset the expenses are warmly welcomed and appreciated! Please complete the enclosed information form and email it to Tina Anastos at [email protected] by October 30, 2026.
St. Paraskevi Philoptochos Game Night:
Everyone is welcome to join the fun during the “Let’s Get Together” game night hosted by our Philoptochos. We are planning on getting together once a month to play Mahjong, Rummy Royale, Backgammon, or some trivia. The first game night will be on Monday, October 26th at 7:00PM in the church’s lower hall. For more information, contact Harriet at [email protected] or 973.432.1009.
Teen Greek Conversation Class:
Through our St. George Greek School, the first class is scheduled to begin on Wednesday, November 4th! Learning Greek is more than learning a language - it’s discovering a connection to your heritage, culture, and a world of new friendships and opportunities. Whether you’re new to Modern Greek or want to strengthen what you already know, we’d love for you to join us! Classes will meet online via Zoom on Wednesdays from 7:00–8:00 PM. Preparation for the Ellinomatheia certification and the New York State Regents Exam (Greek) proficiency will also be available for interested students. Please spread the word! Let your friends know about the class and encourage them to email us at [email protected] if they’re interested in joining.
Sponsor A Day Program:
One way to help the church is through our “Sponsor A Day” program. We encourage our parishioners to select a day that has special meaning to them like a birthday, feast day, anniversary or a memorial and make a suggested donation of $250. We would like to thank Angeliki Antoniou for sponsoring November 9, the Feast Day of St. Nectarios in memory of her husband Antonis Antoniou. For more information about the program, please speak to one of our Parish Council members or call the church office.
Greek Dance Classes:
Are you ready to see your children dance? We will have Greek dance lessons on Sundays at 12:00PM in the church’s lower hall. All children ages 5 through 12 are welcome. The fee is $20 a month per child. For more information, contact Fotoula at [email protected].
Sunday School Snacks:
Did you know that your Sunday School children are offered juice, water, and cookies prior to heading into the classroom? In an effort to encourage fasting, we offer the children a snack as soon as they come down to the classrooms, but we need your help. Parents and parishioners are asked to donate the items needed. A sign-up sheet can be found on a clipboard by the lower kitchen window. Thank you in advance for your help! Your continued support means a lot to us.
Warm the Children is Ending:
The Warm the Children (WTC) ministry housed at St George is coming to an end. We will no longer be accepting items or monetary donations. WTC has enough donated items and monies for Christmas boxes going to Greece, Romania & Ukraine, and then we will stop shipping. Many thanks to Fr. Peter, our Parish Council, office staff, and all the St. George parishioners & ministries who supported & volunteered over the past 12 years. "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Matt. 25:40
Philoptochos “Hopeful Hearts” Bereavement Group:
The mission of the group is to offer support and comfort through professional grief counseling services to individuals navigating the complexities of loss. The group meets every Tuesday at 7:00PM via ZOOM. For more information, contact Konstantina Papadakos at [email protected].
These Martyrs were disciples of Saint Paul the Confessor (see Nov. 6). Martyrius was a subdeacon, Marcian a chanter and reader. They were beheaded by the Arians in the year 346. Miracles were wrought at their tomb, and demons were cast out; Saint John Chrysostom began the building of the church in their honour in Constantinople, and it was completed by patriarch Sisinius.
Saint Demetrius was a Thessalonian, a most pious son of pious and noble parents, and a teacher of the Faith of Christ. When Maximian first came to Thessalonica in 290, he raised the Saint to the rank of Duke of Thessaly. But when it was discovered that the Saint was a Christian, he was arrested and kept bound in a bath-house. While the games were under way in the city, Maximian was a spectator there. A certain friend of his, a barbarian who was a notable wrestler, Lyaeus by name, waxing haughty because of the height and strength of his body, boasted in the stadium and challenged the citizens to a contest with him. All that fought with him were defeated. Seeing this, a certain youth named Nestor, aquaintance of Demetrius', came to the Saint in the bath-house and asked his blessing to fight Lyaeus single-handed. Receiving this blessing and sealing himself with the sign of the precious Cross, he presented himself in the stadium, and said, "O God of Demetrius, help me!" and straightway he engaged Lyaeus in combat and smote him with a mortal blow to the heart, leaving the former boaster lifeless upon the earth. Maximian was sorely grieved over this, and when he learned who was the cause of this defeat, he commanded straightway and Demetrius was pierced with lances while he was yet in the bath-house, As for Nestor, Maximian commanded that he be slain with his own sword.
The Feast of the Protection commemorates the appearance of the most holy Theotokos in the Church of Blachernae in Constantinople in the tenth century, as recorded in the life of Saint Andrew the Fool for Christ's sake. While the multitudes of the faithful were gathered in church, Epiphanius, the friend of Saint Andrew, through the Saint's prayers, beheld the Virgin Mary above the faithful and spreading out her veil over them, signifying her unceasing protection of all Christians. Because of this we keep a yearly feast of gratitude, imploring our Lady never to cease sheltering us in her mighty prayers.
The Feast is celebrated on October 1. In the 1950s, the Church of Greece began to observe the Feast on October 28.

Tenth Orthros Gospel
The Reading is from John 21:1-14
At that time, Jesus revealed Himself again to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias; and He revealed Himself in this way. Simon Peter, Thomas, called the Twin, Nathanael of Cana in Galilee, the sons of Zebedee, and two others of His disciples were together. Simon Peter said to them, "I am going fishing." They said to him, "We will go with you." They went out and got into the boat, but that night they caught nothing. Just as day was breaking, Jesus stood on the beach, yet the disciples did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to them, "Children, have you any fish?" They answered him, "No." He said to them, "Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some." So they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, for the quantity of fish. That disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, "It is the Lord!" When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his clothes, for he was stripped for work, and sprang into the sea. But the other disciples came in the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from the land, but about a hundred yards off. When they got out on land, they saw a charcoal fire there with fish lying on it, and bread. Jesus said to them, "Bring some of the fish that you have just caught." So Simon Peter went aboard and hauled the net ashore, full of large fish, a hundred and fifty-three of them; and although there were so many, the net was not torn. Jesus said to them, "Come and have breakfast." Now none of the disciples dared ask Him, "Who are you?" They knew it was the Lord. Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and so with the fish. This was now the third time that Jesus was revealed to the disciples after He was raised from the dead. .

Prokeimenon. Fourth Mode. Psalm 103.24,1.
O Lord, how manifold are your works. You have made all things in wisdom.
Verse: Bless the Lord, O my soul.
The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 2:16-20.
Brethren, knowing that a man is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ, and not by works of the law, because by works of the law shall no one be justified. But if, in our endeavor to be justified in Christ, we ourselves were found to be sinners, is Christ then an agent of sin? Certainly not! But if I build up again those things which I tore down, then I prove myself a transgressor. For I through the law died to the law, that I might live to God. I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Fourth Mode.
6th Sunday of Luke
The Reading is from Luke 8:26-39
At that time, as Jesus arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, there met him a man from the city who had demons; for a long time he had worn no clothes and he lived not in a house but among the tombs. When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell down before him, and said with a loud voice, "What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beseech you, do not torment me." For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. (For many a time it had seized him; he was kept under guard, and bound with chains and fetters, but he broke the bonds and was driven by the demon into the desert.) Jesus then asked him, "What is your name?" And he said, "Legion"; for many demons had entered him. And they begged him not to command them to depart into the abyss. Now a large herd of swine was feeding there on the hillside; and they begged him to let them enter these. So he gave them leave. Then the demons came out of the man and entered the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and were drowned. When the herdsmen saw what happened, they fled, and told it in the city and in the country. Then people went out to see what had happened, and they came to Jesus, and found the man from whom the demons had gone, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid. And those who had seen it told them how he who had been possessed with demons was healed. Then all the people of the surrounding country of the Gadarenes asked him to depart from them; for they were seized with great fear; so he got into the boat and returned. The man from whom the demons had gone begged that he might be with him; but he sent him away, saying, "Return to your home, and declare how much God has done for you." And he went away, proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him.
