The New Jersey camp runs from July 16th – July 22nd and takes place at Camp Lindwood Macdonald, Sandyston, NJ. For more information, please email [email protected]. Together, we can help create unforgettable memories and spiritual growth opportunities for the children in our sacred Metropolis.
Holy Apostles Bartholomew and Barnabas:
Saint Bartholomew was one of the Twelve Apostles, a Galilean; the Gospel accounts say little more about him. It is said that, after receiving the Holy Spirit at Pentecost, he traveled in the service of the Gospel to Arabia and Persia, and brought to India a translation of the Gospel according to Matthew. Eusebius writes that one hundred years later Pantaenus, an illustrious Alexandrian scholar, found this gospel when he traveled in India. By most accounts Bartholomew ended his life in Armenia, where he met his martyrdom by crucifixion. According to many, he and Nathaniel are the same person: the Gospel accounts that speak of Bartholomew do not mention Nathaniel; and St John's Gospel, which mentions Nathanael as one of the Twelve, does not mention Bartholomew. But according to the Greek Synaxarion, Bartholomew and Simon the Zealot are one and the same. Saint Barnabas was one of the Seventy, from Cyprus, a Levite and at one time a fellow-student with St Paul under Gamaliel. After Christ's Ascension, he led the Seventy until the Apostle Paul's conversion. He is mentioned often in the Acts of the Apostles, which describes some of his travels as a companion of St Paul. By all accounts, he was the first to preach the Gospel of Christ in Rome and in Milan. His wonder-working relics were discovered on the island of Cyprus in the time of the Emperor Zeno; on this basis the Church of Cyprus was established as an independent Church, since it had an apostolic foundation.

St. Paraskevi Philoptochos Sandwich Sunday:
For the month of May, sandwiches for the homeless were made on May 23rd. Our goal is to make a minimum of 225 sandwiches each time. Any donation to help defray the cost is greatly appreciated. It is a wonderful way to remember a loved one, or a special occasion. The supplies for the sandwiches were donated by Linda Chelius in memory of her husband, Jeff. May his memory be eternal. Feeding the hungry is an important tenet of our mission to help the needy.
Stewardship:
We invite you and your family to participate in our spiritual, outreach, social and youth ministries. The Church is here for you and your family to proclaim the Orthodox Faith and make our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and His Church the center of your family’s life! We invite all those who have offered an annual gift in the past to try and maintain or even increase their contribution this year. For those that have never given an annual gift, we need your help. We understand that philanthropy is something very personal. Each person is invited to give according to their ability. If you are able, please consider joining one of the following giving levels this year: ($5,000 or more – Grand Benefactors, $2500-$4,999 – Benefactors, $1,000-$2,499 – House of Stewards, $800-$999- Patrons). Of course, whatever you decide to give please know that you have our utmost gratitude and appreciation, and please know our Church is here to serve your each and every need. The important thing to keep in mind is that we need everyone to do something. Sincere thanks to those who have already made their Stewardship Commitment for 2023!
