CHRIST IS RISEN! TRULY HE IS RISEN! XRISTOS ANESTI! ALITHOS ANESTI!
This is the greeting of the season, so great is the Paschal Feast! From the first proclamation through Holy Ascension (May 29) this is how Orthodox rightly greet one another. So don't feel odd, instead, go ahead and proclaim the Resurrection of Christ to one another!
WELCOME TO OUR VISITORS Whether you are new to Bangor or if you're just passing through -welcome! If you've come because you are curious about the Orthodox Church, its beliefs and worship, you are very welcome, too! Please don't hesitate to introduce yourself to someone you've never met and consider staying for some refreshments and fellowship after the morning service. If you would like to receive mailings or otherwise stay in touch, please leave your contact information (name, address, phone, email) with the person in the church office.
SUNDAY SCHOOL is on hiatus through Holy Pentecost. Stay tuned--we'll be back!

BLESS YOUR MOTHER TODAY Enjoy Mother's Day with your family. Bless your dear mother as it reads in Proverbs 31:28, "Her children rise up and call her blessed; Her husband also, and he praises her: “Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all.” How beautiful is that!
A MOTHER'S DAY PRAYER
attributed to Gregg Phillips
A Prayer for Mothers
A Love That Looks Like Heaven
Father,
Thank You for mothers,
for the hands that hold,
the hearts that carry,
and the quiet strength that shapes generations.
You’ve woven something eternal into a mother’s love.
It forgives before it’s asked.
It fights without fear.
It gives without asking for anything in return.
It is fierce.
It is gentle.
It is holy.
We see You, Lord…
in the way a mother stays when others leave,
in the way she prays when no one sees,
in the way she loves when it costs her everything.
“Her children rise up and call her blessed;
her husband also, and he praises her.” (Proverbs 31:28)
So today, we rise up…
To honor the mothers who raised us,
who believed in us,
who sacrificed so we could stand.
We pray for the weary mothers…
carrying more than they let on.
Refresh them.
We pray for the grieving mothers…
with names written on their hearts instead of in their arms.
Comfort them.
We pray for the new mothers…
wide-eyed and wonder-filled.
Strengthen them.
We pray for the spiritual mothers…
who love like Christ and lead with wisdom.
Bless them.
And we pray for those who long to be mothers…
waiting, hoping, aching.
Hold them close, Lord.
Let every mother feel seen and loved today…
Not just with flowers or words
but with the peace of knowing that their love has eternal weight.
May they know that what they do matters…
That every prayer whispered, every tear shed,
every act of faith, every late night, every early morning.
You’ve seen it all.
Let them rest in Your joy.
Let them rise in Your strength.
Let them walk in the legacy they are building—
one child, one prayer, one day at a time.
Because a mother’s love is not ordinary
it’s a glimpse of Yours.
And we thank You for every one of them.
In the name of Jesus,
the Son who loved His mother from the Cross,
Amen.
MEMORY ETERNAL! Cathy S's Aunt Joan Baratta was called to the Lord on Thursday, May 1. May the Lord console all the family members and friends and grant His servant, Joan, eternal memory!
ALTAR GUILD Thanks to Susan and Anita Rose who now make up the Altar Guild, we were able to restore some older linens through their careful laundering and some older robes with equal care. The Altar Guild will direct the choice of fabrics for altar cloths, icon stand covers, covers for the Holy Gifts, and be involved in their construction. They also care for the cleaning of altar linens. It is a quiet ministry that adds much dignity to the church's appearance. Sewing talent is desired but not required. If you would like to be part of the AG, please let Pres. know.
PRAYER REQUESTS UPDATE Prayer changes things--let us support one another. Recently added prayer requests: For Mona, temporarily stranded in Pakistan until next Wednesday, May 14. Let's pray that she can exit safely on Wednesday and that the now declared ceasefire will hold. Grant it, O Lord! For protection and safety for Mona's family members who remain in the country, also. For Mark S, UMaine student, who will work with Project Mexico this summer and then spend fall semester at Hellenic College/Holy Cross before returning to Maine next spring. He has asked if he could be remembered in prayer while away. And an anonymous request: Please pray for a beloved family member of one of our parishioners who has transitioned to hospice care. Prayers are also requested for safety during the long and difficult travel it will require to see the family member. Finally, please pray for the rest of the family, as it has been very trying to navigate this medical condition. Thank you. Susan B has two family members who are afflicted with serious illnesses and asks prayer support for each. One has stage 4 esophageal cancer and the other, an incurable genetic disease. Please remember Nick and Darrell in your prayers. Joshua G (Orthodox inquirer) has asked prayers for his nephew, Lorenzo, age 3. Since turning one, little Lorenzo is sometimes afflicted with seizures without medical explanation. He recently suffered a seizure after a long period of non-occurrence. Please pray the Lord and our Panagia to relieve the child of seizures and bring complete healing.
Supportive prayers requested for Michael and Gabrielle for their Orthodox marriage crowning coming up on June 1. Summarized requests from past weeks: Prayer requested for Mona and Anthony, grieving over the recent departure of Mona's father; for Fr. Leo (continued improvement for mobility in right arm); Victoria (healing after successful knee surgery); Grigori (Gary) healing from deep vein thrombosis (he's improving!); Kathy's brother, Fred (continued healing from spinal stenosis surgery and recovery to affected nerves); Cathy (decisions regarding health), Matthew (attending seminary this fall), Paula (management of on-going health concern), ; Panagiota & Seraphima (stroke recovery) and Pat (managing eyesight health). Again, your prayers for these these brothers and sisters in Christ are of great assistance to each person being upheld.
DEVELOP SPIRITUAL MUSCLE There is much to be said for praying through the Book of Psalms routinely. Read about "the Power of the Psalter" by Metropolitan Neophytos of Morphou (Cyprus) here: https://www.orthodoxwitness.org/the-power-of-the-psalter/. We have a group that prays the Psalter from the beginning to end every 20 days. Would you like to join? We'll be starting over again soon. If you'd like to purchase an Orthodox Psalter book (where Psalms are broken into portions known as kathismata, numbered 1-20) please let Pres. know and she'll order a book for you. Or you can order one directly from St. Tikhon's Press https://stmpress.com/collections/new-releases/products/the-holy-psalter. This is a hardcover book that will be used again and again throughout your Orthodox life, well worth the investment.

ORTHODOX BIBLE STUDY Here is a recommended resource for Bible Study for Orthodox Christians. Learn from Dr. Jeannie Constantinou, a well respected and engaging Orthodox Christian expositor. Visit her site and go deep into the Scriptures: https://orthodoxbiblestudy.info/ Read her bio here: https://orthodoxbiblestudy.info/about-your-professor/. Many of us have read books written by Dr. Constintinou already and been greatly edified. She has a second web site, as well: https://www.drjeannie.com/. Her book about the Crucifixion of our Lord is in our bookstore now.
A NICE WAY TO HELP ST. GEORGE For an unspecified time, a family has offered to buy our bookshop stock as a donation so the church does not need to fund the stock purchases. That means whenever you buy from our bookshop St. George benefits a good bit. So please shop here and if there is a book or something else (icon, prayer rope, neck cross, bread seal, or the like) you're looking for, please let Pres. know so it can be ordered. Thanks for shopping here--and let Pres. know if you are looking for specific items or want to order a particular book.
NEW CATECHISM BOOKS ARE IN. Would you like to reserve one? They are $15.95, please let Pres. know.
