A Message from the Pastor: Freely Received, Freely Given
Dear Parish Family,
This Sunday’s Gospel places Lazarus at the rich man’s gate. The rich man had the means to help, yet failed to respond to the suffering before him. Christ calls us to examine our own hearts: Do the blessings we have received open our eyes to others and move us to love?
In today’s Epistle, St. Paul reminds us that we are members of Christ’s Body, each entrusted with gifts for the life of the Church. He then shows us the measure of every offering: love. Even extraordinary generosity loses its meaning when love is absent.
Saints Cosmas and Damian show us what this love looks like. These holy unmercenary physicians freely offered their healing gifts, seeking no payment. Their hymn gives us a simple invitation: “Freely ye received, freely give unto us.” They understood that what comes from God is entrusted to us for the good of others.
With this spirit, I am announcing a capital campaign for St. George. Together with our Parish Council, I invite you to approach this undertaking as an expression of our shared stewardship. Caring for the church entrusted to us sustains a place where the Divine Liturgy is celebrated, children learn the Faith, the grieving receive comfort, and neighbors find welcome.
Those who came before us gave sacrificially so that we could receive these blessings. Now we have the opportunity to carry their faithful work forward. Our care for this holy place must go hand in hand with care for the people God brings to our doors.
As we share the campaign’s plans and opportunities to participate, please begin with prayer. Consider what a thoughtful, sacrificial commitment could look like for your household, alongside your continuing support of our parish’s daily ministry supported through everyone's stewardship pledge.
I am grateful for your love for St. George. Through the prayers of Saints Cosmas and Damian, may Christ help us offer our gifts freely, unite us in His service, and make this undertaking fruitful for generations to come.
With love in Christ,
Your Pastor, Father Ephraim
