EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES:
RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE: TODAY, Sunday, July 19th from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm at the Hellenic Cultural Center. CRITICAL NEED ALERT: Blood donation appointments are down during the summer months, and blood is needed for emergencies and lifesaving medical care. Walk in appointments are available.
MEN’S GROUP MEETING: Our Men's Group will meet TODAY Sunday, July 19th in the Parish Board Room after the Divine Liturgy. We will be reviewing the status of our upcoming golf outing, planning this year’s Feed-the-Needy outreach, wrapping up old business, and discussing any new business. Your attendance is welcome and your input is appreciated.
GOLF OUTING: The Sts. Constantine & Helen Men's Club will be holding their 15th Annual Golf Outing on Sunday, August 16th at Fellows Creek Golf Course. NEWS AND NOTICES:
SUMMER SURVIVAL BOARD: Our Summer Survival Board is back in the church Narthex. Even though church attendance and donations unfortunately decrease during the summer months, youth programs and other ministries increase their activity, while regular building and property maintenance, utilities, and other expenses continue. That is why, again this year, we are asking for your help by making an additional donation to our “Summer Survival” campaign. When you are in church, please write in your name in the category/donation amount that you plan to contribute. You can make your donation online at stcons.org or by cash or check. Your help will make a big difference!

LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS:
Please consider the ways in which you can give time to the church in the upcoming months. Send an email to the church office ([email protected]) and let us know how you can help! We are in particular need of volunteers for:
- Upcoming Event Committees (various – organization, tickets, décor, etc.)
- Outside grounds (watering, weeding, trimming, etc.)
- Photographers (for upcoming events and for the new parish directory)
- Sunday Greeters
- Sunday School and Youth Programs
MEMORIAL SERVICES AND TRIBUTES: Please call the church office to schedule all memorials and coffee hour sponsorships at least two weeks in advance. On the day of the service, please bring a list of family names you would like Father to remember in prayer. Koliva will be distributed at the coffee hour; if you wish to bring in paximadia, koulourakia, or other dry cookie it may also be distributed. Coffee Hour sponsorship is not required, but for those who wish, a sponsorship donation of $200 is requested. HCC will set up a table with cloth and coffee, etc. for your family. Family members may also choose to have flowers placed on the Altar table for a donation of $75 (two large vases) or to purchase a bottle of communion wine from our parish bookstore for $30 for the service.

DID YOU KNOW? THE 4TH ECUMENICAL COUNCIL
Held in Chalcedon, near Constantinople, 451. Under Emperor Marcian. 630 Bishops were present.
Monophysite Controversy
The Council was concerned, once again, with the nature of Jesus Christ. The teaching arose that Christ's human nature (less perfect) dissolved itself in His divine nature (more perfect): like a cube of sugar in a post of water. Thus, in reality, Christ had only one nature, the Divine. Hence, the term: Monophysites ("mono", one and "physis", "nature".) Monophysitism overemphasized the divine nature of Christ, at the expense of the human.
Proclamation
The Council condemned Monophysitism and famously produced the “Chalcedonian Definition”, which declared that Jesus Christ is fully divine and fully human, existing as one person in two distinct natures united without confusion, change, division, or separation
Here are the primary outcomes and consequences of the council:
- Christological Ruling: It rejected Monophysitism (the belief that Christ had only one, divine nature) in favor of the Chalcedonian Definition.
- The Schism: Because this definition was unacceptable to some Eastern theologians, it resulted in a permanent split, creating the Oriental Orthodox Churches (such as the Coptic, Syriac, and Armenian churches) which are distinct from the Eastern Orthodox and Western Catholic churches.
- Reorganization of the Church: The council issued 27 (or 28) disciplinary canons. Most notably, Canon 28 elevated the see of Constantinople to a status of honor equal to that of Old Rome, and the Patriarchate of Jerusalem was officially established.
