Let your mercy, O Lord, be upon us.

The reading is from St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 9:6-11.

Brethren, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must do as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that you may always have enough of everything and may provide in abundance for every good work. As it is written, "He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures for ever." He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your resources and increase the harvest of your righteousness. You will be enriched in every way for great generosity, which through us will produce thanksgiving to God.

At that time, there came to Jesus a man named Jairus, who was a ruler of the synagogue; and falling at Jesus' feet he besought him to come to his house, for he had an only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she was dying. As he went, the people pressed round him. And a woman who had had a flow of blood for twelve years and had spent all her living upon physicians and could not be healed by anyone, came up behind him, and touched the fringe of his garment; and immediately her flow of blood ceased. And Jesus said, "Who was it that touched me?" When all denied it, Peter and those who were with him said, "Master, the multitudes surround you and press upon you!" But Jesus said, "Some one touched me; for I perceive that power has gone forth from me." And when the woman saw that she was not hidden, she came trembling, and falling down before him declared in the presence of all the people why she had touched him, and how she had been immediately healed. And he said to her, "Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace." While he was still speaking, a man from the ruler's house came and said, "Your daughter is dead; do not trouble the Teacher any more." But Jesus on hearing this answered him, "Do not fear; only believe, and she shall be well." And when he came to the house, he permitted no one to enter with him, except Peter and John and James, and the father and mother of the child. And all were weeping and bewailing her; but he said, "Do not weep; for she is not dead but sleeping." And they laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. But taking her by the hand he called, saying, "Child, arise." And her spirit returned, and she got up at once; and he directed that something should be given her to eat. And her parents were amazed; but he charged them to tell no one what had happened.

EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES:

HOPE AND JOY “CONVERSATIONS AND COFFEE”: TODAY, 10/20/24, HOPE and JOY will host our first “Conversations & Coffee” event with Father Teodor. During coffee hour, adults are invited to meet with Father Teodor for informal group discussion while the children participate in light activities with our HOPE and JOY team. Adult only discussion should last approximately 45 minutes. No lunch is provided.

TLC LUNCHEON Join us this Tuesday, October 22 for our first Tuesday Lunch Club (TLC) event of the year!! Cost is $15; time is 12:00 pm in the Hellenic Cultural Center. Contact Lynne at (734) 674-8943 or the church office at (734) 525-6789 to reserve your spot.

FALL FESTIVAL: Our annual Fall Festival will be held on Friday, October 25^th, from 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm in the Hellenic Cultural Center. The event features a bounce house, new games and prizes, Bingo, Photo Booth, Food, and Fun for all ages! This year, we will also have our first-ever PASTITSIO COOK OFF! Reach out to Georgia at: [email protected] to participate. Tickets for the Fall Festival event will be on sale at the door - $10 each, or $35 for a family group of 4 or more. Prizes will be rewarded for Bingo and best costumes!

LIGHTS, CAMERA, AUCTION! Tickets are available Sundays at the coffee hour, and during the week online or at the church office, for our “Putting on the Glitz” Reverse Raffle and auction to be held on Sunday, November 10^th. The last ticket drawn wins $4,000, with many more fantastic prizes given throughout the night. WE ARE ALSO STILL IN NEED OF AUCTION ITEM DONATIONS FOR OUR LIVE AND SILENT AUCTION ON THAT NIGHT.

PHILOPTOCHOS “PINK OUT” SUNDAY: Next Sunday, October 27^th wear something pink! Our Philoptochos will be distributing pink ribbons and collecting donations for the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research and support. This day, along with a special coffee hour is intended to raise awareness and to provide support to those in our parish family who have experienced, or are currently dealing with breast cancer.

GREEK PASTRY BAKING LESSONS: Our final Greek Pastry baking lesson will be held on 10/24 - Koulourakia. Time is 6:00 pm. There is no fee, and all materials are provided. THANKING OUR FIREFIGHTERS: On Sunday, November 3^rd there will be a HOPE and JOY luncheon after church for kids, age 4 through 6^th grade and their families. CHOIR VOCAL WORKSHOP: Our Choir will host a vocal workshop on Saturday, November 16^th at 9:30 am with Constantine Novotny, a Detroit-based classical singer and songwriter. ADULT BIBLE STUDY: Our Adult Bible Study will meet this Tuesday, October 22^nd at 7:00 pm. Bible Study meets each Tuesday evening on the Zoom platform, all adults are welcome to participate, as we continue our study of the Book of Matthew. FOCUS DETROIT GALA: FOCUS Detroit’s 2^nd annual “Evening of Gratitude” will be held on Saturday, October 26^th at the St. Mary Cultural Center in Livonia, with dinner, drinks and dancing to support the work of FOCUS Detroit in serving those in need.
