Prokeimenon. Plagal Second Mode. Psalm 27.9,1.
O Lord, save your people and bless your inheritance.
Verse: To you, O Lord, I have cried, O my God.
The reading is from St. Paul's Second Letter to the Corinthians 4:6-15.
Brethren, it is the God who said, "Let light shine out of darkness," who has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, to show that the transcendent power belongs to God and not to us. We are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not driven to despair; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed; always carrying in the body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be manifested in our bodies. For while we live we are always being given up to death for Jesus' sake, so that the life of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh. So death is at work in us, but life in you.
Since we have the same spirit of faith as he had who wrote, "I believed, and so I spoke," we too believe, and so we speak, knowing that he who raised the Lord Jesus will raise us also with Jesus and bring us with you into his presence. For it is all for your sake, so that as grace extends to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.

Plagal Second Mode.
3rd Sunday of Luke
The Reading is from Luke 7:11-16
At that time, Jesus went to a city called Nain, and his disciples and a great crowd went with him. As he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, a man who had died was being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a large crowd from the city was with her. And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her and said to her, "Do not weep." And he came and touched the bier, and the bearers stood still. And he said, "Young man, I say to you, arise." And the dead man sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother. Fear seized them all; and they glorified God, saying, "A great prophet has arisen among us!" and "God has visited his people!"
3rd Sunday of Luke
The name Thomas means, "twin." He was one of the Twelve, a Galilean by birth. Sophroneus (not the famous Patriarch of Jerusalem [7th Century, celebrated March 11], but a friend of Jerome's), quoted also by Jerome, says that Saint Thomas preached to the Parthians, Pesians, Medes, Hyrcanians, Bactrians, and neighbouring nations. According to Heracleon, the Apostle died a natural death; according to other accounts, he was martyred at Meliapur His tomb was known by Saint John Chrysostom to be at Edessa in Syria, to which city his holy relics may have been translated from India in the fourth century.

●GOYA Officers Meeting today after Sunday school in Father's Office.
●GOYA Basketball Update: I hope everyone is enjoying the early days of fall and getting back into the swing of the school and ecclesiastical year. I am writing to all parents of GOYA-aged children with a plea for participation in our youth basketball programs. Over the years our church has enjoyed a great tradition of fun and fellowship with our tennagers participation in the Delaware Valley Greek Orthodox Basketball League. I've had the distinct pleasure of getting to see generations of kids make memories that they still come back from college and early adulthood and share with each other at festivals, parish gatherings, holidays and family events to this day, with none of these memories mattering about the final scores or the size of the trophies won or lost at season's end. As the years have gone on, our church activities, with basketball being no exception, have seen competition from outside clubs and events that have pulled the kids away a bit. Especially in the post-COVID era, we are now looking at a year in which our attendance has reached the point that our first home game of the season for our girls team will likely be a forfeit due to an inability to field 5 girls to participate. I am writing to all of you with a fervent plea; for those of you with GOYA-aged children, please encourage them to participate and come out for the team. It is not too late to join this season, and I must really emphasize that being good or great at basketball, or sports in general, is not a requisite. Our role as the coaches is not to focus on wins and losses, but rather to foster and promote the best culture for the kids to allow them to have fun and enjoy their time together. We really just want the kids to have a reason to come together with their friends that hopefully, will be their friends and fellow parishioners for years and decades to come, and to make memories that will more firmly root them into our church culture and heritage. I know I speak for our Sights and Sounds and Dance program as well when I say that these activities are our main tool for keeping the kids involved in the church in a time where more and more seems to be pulling them away, and I am asking for the help and assistance of our parents, grandparents, godparents and families to assist us by bringing the kids out to participate so that we can work together to keep our youth community growing and strong.
For all of those able also today is our first home game of the season. Our younger boys will be playing at 3:00, our girls (hopefully) will be playing at 4:00 and our older boys will be playing at 5:00. If you can, please try to come out and support our kids, as I know they get a big kick out of playing in front of their home parish (and we all get a big kick out of not having to drive over an hour to get to our games).
Thank you all so much, and remember our slogan, Believe in Blue!
