Looking Ahead

Young at Heart Ministry News

WELCOME BACK, meet and greet get-together after the divine liturgy of the Elevation of the Holy Cross on Thursday, Sept. 14th.

Light refreshments will be provided.

For more details, please contact Maria (215) 885-0242, Beth (215-659-3437), or Susan (215) 901-6264.

Our Young at Heart ministry provides fellowship and friendship for our 65 and above mature adults.
Each person in the church is vital to the health and growth of the church. Older Christians' rich experience and seasoned gifts are indispensable resources to our congregation. In addition, our church is committed to encouraging the Young at Heart to maintain their involvement in the church's life. There's a place for you at Annunciation! Ministries need your skills, abilities, and maturity!

Matthew25 Ministry News

"To everything, there is a season and a time to every purpose under heaven" Ecclesiastes 3:1.
Matthew 25 welcomes everyone back and is ready to begin its new season of service. Schools are just starting, and our message resonates with those less fortunate than ourselves. Many of us experienced a summer of travel, fun, sun, and social gatherings, with food always surrounding us. A few miles down the road, other families worry about how they will provide the next meal or stretch their little money for a few more weeks. It's not only families but our elderly, single, sick, etc. We hear stories of struggles as we converse with the pantries and the shoppers, and as we often say in our bulletins, "We are humbled." That feeling never changes and continues to pull at our heartstrings.

Matthew 25 will continue to serve the underserved in our local suburbs. We try to help other pantries if needs are shared with us along with Mattie Dixon Homework Club. We will prepare for our Annual Turkey Drive and Angel Tree next month. If you would like to get involved, please reach out to us. We can only do as much as possible through your donations. We are always appreciative of your gift in any amount.

We are blessed to serve Matthew 25 under the direction of Father John and our Annunciation Church. We will work hard this fall to continue our ministries' work in caring for our neighbors battling food insecurities. If you choose to donate non-perishable food, please get in touch with one of us, and we will pick it up from the M25 bin. We receive very little regarding non-perishables and are back to shopping and delivering most of our deliveries.

We wish everyone a safe and Happy Labor Day! We will work hard to fulfill our duty to God this new ecclesiastical year.

In Christ's Service,
Sophia & Lisa

Thank you!

Focus on Our Church Family

Pastoral care: If you or someone you know is sick, homebound elderly, or scheduled for surgery, please call the church office to let us know so Fr. John can make a pastoral visit or add someone to the prayer list.

Let us pray to the Lord for the health and salvation of: Noel, Kyriaki, Maria, John, Philip, Donna, Lucy, John, Smaragdi, Josephine, Emma, Paulette, Virginia, Effie, James, Grace, Hollie.
We will keep the names on this list for approximately 3 months. Please resubmit Names if needed. Fr. John will include the submitted names at the Psokomide “Offering of Gifts” during the first part of the liturgy when he prepares the mystical gifts of bread & wine. Please lift these names to the Lord in your personal prayer life as well.

Prayer for healing: Heavenly Father, physician of our souls and bodies, who have sent our Lord to heal every sickness. Visit and heal us. Grant patience in this sickness, strength of body and spirit, and recovery of health. Lord, You have taught us to pray for each other that we may be healed. We pray that You heal, guide, and protect your servant (s) (pray by name for those who are sick) and grant them the gift of complete health. You are the source of healing, and to You, we give glory, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

Gospel and Epistle Readings

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. Plagal Second Mode. Psalm 27.9,1.
O Lord, save your people and bless your inheritance.
Verse: To you, O Lord, I have cried, O my God.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Galatians 6:11-18.

Brethren, see with what large letters I am writing to you with my own hand. It is those who want to make a good showing in the flesh that would compel you to be circumcised, and only in order that they may not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For even those who receive circumcision do not themselves keep the law, but they desire to have you circumcised that they may glory in your flesh. But far be it from me to glory except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. For neither circumcision counts for anything, nor uncircumcision, but a new creation. Peace and mercy be upon all who walk by this rule, upon the Israel of God. Henceforth let no man trouble me; for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit, brethren. Amen.

Plagal Second Mode.

Gospel Reading

Sunday before Holy Cross
The Reading is from John 3:13-17

The Lord said, "No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended from heaven, the Son of man who is in heaven. And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God sent the Son into the world, not to condemn the world, but that the world might be saved through him."

Sunday before Holy Cross

Saints and Feasts

September 10

Menodora, Metrodora, & Nymphodora the Martyrs

These Martyrs, sisters according to the flesh, were from Bithynia. They lived in virginity on a mountain near the Pythian hot springs of Bithynia, devoting themselves to asceticism and prayer. Betrayed to the local governor, Fronto, they were subjected to frightful tortures, and so gave up their holy souls into the hands of God. They contested for the Faith during the reign of Maximian, in the year 304.

Sunday Sermon Series - September 10, 2023

09/08/2023

This week, find insights about the upcoming Gospel reading, where we learn about the people in the desert being bit by serpents. What was the solution given to Moses at that time? How does that relate to us and to the Crucifixion of Christ? Also, how does the Cross heal us?
