Repentance
A Transliteration of St. Isaac of Nineveh
Oh, Lord Jesus Christ, our God, You Who wept for Lazarus by shedding tears of grief and compassion, accept the tears of my bitterness. By Your sufferings please alleviate my suffering. Through Your wounds, please, heal my wounds. By Your blood, please, cleanse my blood. Please, pour out upon my body the wondrous fragrance of Your most Sacred, Life-Giving Body. Why? Because the gall that was given unto You to drink transforms the bitterness of my soul into sweetness.
May Your Sacred Body, stretched out on the Cross, convey unto You my spirit that has been held down by demons. May Your Sacred Hands, pierced with nails, rescue me from the pit of damnation, and bring me back to You, just as You have promised. May Your face, that received painful strikes and was spit upon, enlighten my face that is debased by my sinfulness. May Your Soul, which on the Cross You gave back unto Your Father, by Your Divine Grace advance me back unto You.
My spirit is darkened and my heart is cold. I need to know how to warm my heart again by offering tears unto You. But You, Oh, Lord Jesus Christ, my God, do You grant me total repentance, the humbling of my heart, that my whole person (reach out and) search for You! I will be deprived of thorough existence if I should ever be without You! May the Father, Who from all eternity begot You from within, renew within me Your Holy Image!
I have not forsaken You, please do not forsake me! I have wandered from away from You, please reach out in search of me. Lead me back to Your pastures with the sheep of Your flock. May I be fed together with them, refreshingly devouring Your Divine Mysteries, there where the pure hearts dwell; the hearts that reflect the splendor of Your Divine Revelation. Please make us worthy of this divine splendor through Your Divine Grace, and Your love for humankind, O Lord Jesus Christ, our Savior, both now and forever, and to the ages of ages! Amen!
