Dormition Fast
07/27/2025
The Dormition Fast: The Orthodox Church enters into a period of fasting from August 1st until August 15th which is the Feast of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary. During this time when we collectively refrain from meat, dairy, eggs, and oil. (There are some exceptions.) For those interested in knowing more and/or have specific questions about the fast, please see Father Thomas. Let us remember what Saint John Chrysostom says, “he is mistaken who thinks that the fast consists only in abstinence from food. True fasting is departing from evil.”
