Apolytikion for Afterfeast of the Dormition in the First Mode

In giving birth you retained your virginity, and in dormition you did not forsake the world, O Theotokos. You were translated unto life, being the Mother of Life. And thus by virtue of your intercessions you deliver our souls from death.

Neither the grave nor death could contain the Theotokos, the unshakable hope, ever vigilant in intercession and protection. As Mother of life, He who dwelt in the ever-virginal womb transposed her to life.

The reading is from St. Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians 1:10-17.

Brethren, I appeal to you by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree and that there be no dissensions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment. For it has been reported to me by Chloe's people that there is quarreling among you, my brethren. What I mean is that each one of you says, "I belong to Paul," or "I belong to Apollos," or "I belong to Cephas," or "I belong to Christ." Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? I thank God that I baptized none of you except Crispos and Gaius; lest any one should say that you were baptized in my name. (I did baptize also the household of Stephanas. Beyond that, I do not know whether I baptized any one else.) For Christ did not send me to baptize but to preach the gospel, and not with eloquent wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power.

Jesus said, "They need not go away; you give them something to eat." They said to him, "We have only five loaves here and two fish." And he said, "Bring them here to me." Then he ordered the crowds to sit down on the grass; and taking the five loaves and the two fish he looked up to heaven, and blessed, and broke and gave the loaves to the crowds. And they all ate and were satisfied. And they took up twelve baskets full of the broken pieces left over. And those who ate were about five thousand men, besides women and children. EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES:

MEN’S CLUB GOLF SCRAMBLE: The Sts. Constantine and Helen Men’s Club will host its Twelfth Annual Charity Golf Outing in support of community and philanthropic activities, including the Men’s Club Feed the Needy program on Saturday September 7^th at Fellows Creek Golf Course. Entry fee is $125/person, $500 for a foursome. Registration forms are available at the Pangari.

GOYA KICK-OFF TAILGATE: Saturday, September 7^th is also the date for our GOYA Kick-Off Tailgate for young people grades 7 - 12! The event will be held at the church from 5:00 – 9:00 pm. There will be a Parent Meeting for new GOYA members at 5:00 pm that evening

FIRST DAY OF SUNDAY SCHOOL/WELCOME BACK LUNCHEON: Sunday, September 15^th is the first day of Sunday School for the Ecclesiastical year! Please be sure to register your young people, using the QR code on the flyer in the bulletin. Registration forms are also available at the church office. Classes begin with Pre-K, and going thru Senior Discussion, age 18. That same day, all parishioners are invited to a complimentary “Welcome Back” luncheon in the Hellenic Cultural Center following the service.

WINE TASTING AND TRIVIA: Our St. Helen Philoptochos will sponsor a Wine Tasting and Trivia night on Saturday evening, September 28^th. Save the date! Tickets and information will be available soon!

ENTHRONEMENT CELEBRATION: Saints Constantine and Helen Church is proud to host the 25^th Anniversary Enthronement Celebration honoring His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas on Saturday, October 12^th at the Hellenic Cultural Center. NATIVITY “TASTE OF GREECE” FESTIVAL: August 22 – 25, Plymouth MI

NEWS AND NOTICES:

LIVE AUCTION ITEMS NEEDED: We are in need of auction items for the St. Cons’ “Putting on the Glitz” Reverse Raffle and Auction, to be held November 10th. This event is our parish’ largest annual fundraiser. If you can help, please contact Fr. Teodor, Mark Chuey, or the church office.

SUMMER SURVIVAL: Even though church attendance unfortunately decreases during the summer months, regular building and property maintenance, utilities, and other expenses continue. Donate online to our “Summer Survival” through our parish website, www.stcons.org, at the church office or by mail.

OUR ST CONS BASKETBALL TEAMS: Basketball players of all different skills, ages 5 and up, are welcome to join our St Cons teams, including those with no previous experience! We will start practicing Saturday October 5th at 2:15pm - 3:15pm at Hillside Middle School in Northville, both gyms have been rented. Practices will be held every Saturday and games will start in January on Saturday mornings as well. It will cost $50 for the first child to be enrolled and $25 for each additional child. Each child will receive a pair of shorts to wear for the games to keep. Also, this year we will communicate through text messaging. Please text Tim at 734-323-1317 with parent name, child name, and birthday.

GOYA BOTTLE/CAN COLLECTION: Our GOYA bottle and can returnables collection will continue throughout the summer, raising funds for GOYA activities throughout the year. Please leave your clean returnables in the box near the church office exit doors.

MEMORIAL SERVICES: Please call the church office to schedule all memorials and coffee hour sponsorships at least two weeks in advance. On the day of the service, please bring a list of family names you would like Father to remember in prayer. The requested Coffee Hour Sponsorship donation is $200. The HCC will set up a table with cloth and coffee, etc. for Sponsor Families. Koliva will be distributed to parishioners at the coffee hour; if you wish to bring in paximadia, koulourakia, or other dry cookie it may also be distributed.

Note: There will be a Memorial Service on Sunday, September 1^st for Nicholas Sittas (3 Years) and Heidi Sittas (1 Year). On that day there will also be an Artoclasia.
