We hope that your worship experience with us brings you closer to our Lord, God and Savior, Jesus Christ. If this is your first time with us, please take the time to sign a guest card at the entrance and accept our invitation to join us for coffee and fellowship in the Large Hall after the Service.

Please keep in mind that only those who have been Baptized or Chrismated into our Orthodox Faith and who’ve properly prepared themselves through fasting and Holy Confession (as needed) may participate in the Sacrament of Holy Communion. If you are in need of spiritual direction or would like to know how to become an Orthodox Christian, please talk to Fr. Welcoming Ministry As our parish grows we want to be intentional of how we receive one another, parishioners, visitors, and seekers alike. to that end, we are re-structuring our Welcome Ministry and need volunteers for our welcoming table, parking attendants, inside ushers, etc. The commitment will be light, roughly once a month. If you feel you can help this way please speak with Dimi Sakelarios, Ashley Barbicas, or Andrea Jervinis.

Stewardship we invite all parishioners to pray and reflect on how you can participate in the life of our Parish. Then to engage by offering your time, talent, and your treasure. Every gift, great or small, builds up this community, our spiritual home.

Reserved Parking Spaces have been set aside for our Senior adults. These spots are intended for those who have difficulty walking longer distances and may arrive after the main lot has already filled. If you are a Senior Adult and arrive while there are still plenty of open, unmarked spaces, we kindly ask that you park in a spot that feels comfortable for you. Since we only have a few designated Senior spaces, it helps to treat them as the last spots to be used, rather than the first. Thank you for helping us care for one another in this simple but meaningful way!

Digitizing Our Sunday Offerings Square terminals are now available in the Narthex and Large Hall for those who prefer to make their candle, tray and fellowship offerings by Credit Card, Debit Card or Apple Pay.

Join our Hospitality Ministry We're working to create teams to help with set up & clean up.  As this ministry grows, the commitment should be just 1-2 Sundays a month.  We're also working to create a list of those willing to join with others to help provide food on Sundays when needed (potluck style).  To learn more about this ministry and sign up online Click Here.

Join our Live Stream Ministry This is a wonderful way to help provide service to the parish and is a vital connection to those who are not able to join us in person on Sundays.  No experience necessary, we will provide training.  High school age and above are welcome.  The commitment is just 1-2 services a month.  Please contact Marie Sorenson at [email protected] or contact the church office for more information.

Parents: remember that "Quiet Activity Bags" for your children to use during service are available in the Small Hall - please sign them out and don't forget to sign them back in after Liturgy.

The Kids Zone located in the Large Hall, is open for little ones who need a break.  It offers quiet activities and a live stream of the service so parents and kids can still participate. While in this area, we encourage parents to continue guiding their children. (See our flyer HERE).

Courtesy Reminders:
1. Please remove any lipstick before venerating the icons.
2. Lost & Found located in the Small Hall next to the Bookstore.
3. Please consider parking on the street on Sunday mornings to leave spaces available for parishioners (including families) who need to park closer to the church.
Thank you!

Prayer Ministry “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16 If you need prayer for yourself, a family member, or anyone else in your circle of friends and acquaintances, you can have your prayer requests included in a weekly prayer request list. Also, this new Prayer Ministry is looking for “prayer warriors” who are willing to pray for others in need. Praying for one another is a critical part of living an Orthodox Christian life, and the Prayer Ministry can help you systematically pray for others who need prayer. If you have a prayer request, or would like to become part of this new, important, and exciting ministry, please contact Barbara Cummings via email at [email protected] or contact the church office and we'll help you get in touch.

Online Resources: If you wish to use the Internet as a resource for Orthodoxy, a search engine is only going to give you a list of hits that will be, at best, confusing once you start working your way through all of them. Best to start out with the home pages of the canonical jurisdictions and take note of the pages to which they’ve linked. Here are some recommended links from St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Bellingham, Washington https://www.saintsophias.org/faith-resources.html

Trisagion Films Videos on Orthodox Worship and Praxis  Here you can discover they cover aspects of Orthodox worship and practice, pilgrimages, the lives of the saints, iconography and the sacred arts, and recordings of homilies, interviews, and special events.

Hymns of the Day

Resurrectional Apolytikion in the Third Mode

Let the heavens be glad. Let the earth rejoice exceedingly. For the Lord has shown strength with his arm. He trampled death by death. He became the first-born of the dead. Out of the belly of Hades, He has rescued us, and to the world He has granted the great mercy.

Apolytikion for Luke the Evangelist in the Third Mode

O Holy Apostle and Evangelist Luke, intercede with the merciful God that He grant unto our souls forgiveness of offences.

Apolytikion for the Church in the First Mode

Emulating the ways of Elias the zealot, * and following the straight paths of the Baptist O Father Anthony, * you made of the wilderness a city; * and did support the world by your prayers. * Wherefore intercede with Christ our God * that our souls be saved.

Seasonal Kontakion in the Second Mode

A protection of Christians unshamable, intercessor to our Holy Maker, unwavering, please reject not the prayerful cries of those who are in sin. Instead, come to us, for you are good; your loving help bring unto us, who are crying in faith to you: hasten to intercede and speed now to supplicate, as a protection for all time, Theotokos, for those who honor you.

Gospel and Epistle Readings

Matins Gospel Reading

Ninth Orthros Gospel
The Reading is from John 20:19-31

On the evening of that day, the first day of the week, the doors being shut where the disciples were for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said to them, "Peace be with you." When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, even so I send you." And when He had said this, He breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained." Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, "We have seen the Lord." But he said to them, "Unless I see in His hands the print of the nails, and place my finger in the mark of the nails, and place my hand in His side, I will not believe." Eight days later, His disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. The doors were shut, but Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you." Then He said to Thomas, "Put your finger here, and see My hands; and put out your hand, and place it in My side; do not be faithless, but believing." Thomas answered Him, "My Lord and My God!" Jesus said to him, "Have you believed because you have seen Me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe." Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; but these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing, you may have life in His name.

Ninth Orthros Gospel

Epistle Reading

Prokeimenon. Plagal Fourth Mode. Psalm 18.4,1.
Their voice has gone out into all the earth.
Verse: The heavens declare the glory of God.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Colossians 4:5-11, 14-18.

Brethren, conduct yourselves wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer every one. Tychicos will tell you all about my affairs; he is a beloved brother and faithful minister and fellow servant in the Lord. I have sent him to you for this very purpose, that you may know how we are and that he may encourage your hearts, and with him Onesimos, the faithful and beloved brother, who is one of yourselves. They will tell you of everything that has taken place. Aristarchos my fellow prisoner greets you, and Mark the cousin of Barnabas (concerning whom you have received instructions if he comes to you, receive him), and Jesus who is called Justos. These are the only men of the circumcision among my fellow workers for the kingdom of God, and they have been a comfort to me. Luke the beloved physician and Demas greet you. Give my greetings to the brethren at Laodicea, and to Nympha and the church in her house. And when this letter has been read among you, have it read also in the church of the Laodiceans; and see that you read also the letter from Laodicea. And say to Archippos, "See that you fulfill the ministry which you have received in the Lord." I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. Remember my fetters. Grace be with you. Amen.

Plagal Fourth Mode.

Gospel Reading

Luke the Evangelist
The Reading is from Luke 10:16-21

The Lord said to his disciples, "He who hears you hears me, and he who rejects you rejects me, and he who rejects me rejects him who sent me." The seventy returned with joy, saying, "Lord, even the demons are subject to us in your name!" And he said to them, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. Behold, I have given you authority to tread upon serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy; and nothing shall hurt you. Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you; but rejoice that your names are written in heaven." In that same hour he rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to babes; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will."

Luke the Evangelist

Saints and Feasts

October 18

Luke the Evangelist

This Apostle was an Antiochean, a physician by trade, and a disciple and companion of Paul. He wrote his Gospel in Greek after Matthew and Mark, after which he wrote the Acts of the Apostles, and dedicated both works to Theophilus, who, according to some, was Governor of Achaia. He lived some eighty-six years and died in Achaia, perhaps in Patras, the capital of this district. His emblem is the calf, the third symbolical beast mentioned by Ezekiel (1:10), which is a symbol of Christ's sacrificial and priestly office, as Saint Irenaeus says.

In Our Prayers

Prayer Ministry “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16

  • Paraklesis on Wednesday Evenings: In this service we offer hymns and prayers to Christ and His Mother. If you need prayer for yourself, a family member, or friend, please list the names (first names only) on paper with the heading "For Paraklesis", leave in the tray in the narthex and we will read the names at each service for 40 days.
  • Divine Liturgy every Sunday: During the Proskomidi, or service of preparation, we remember the names of the living and departed, especially all those belonging to our parish. If you would like to submit a list of names to be remembered at this time, please list the names of the living (first names only), and also the departed (first names only), on paper with the heading "For Divine Liturgy." Give your list of names to Father or leave it in the tray in the narthex and we will commemorate your living and departed at Liturgy for 40 days.
  • Prayer Team: If you need prayer for yourself, a family member, or anyone else in your circle of friends and acquaintances, you can have your prayer requests included in a weekly prayer request list. This Prayer Ministry is looking for “prayer warriors” who are willing to pray for others in need. If you have a prayer request, or would like to become part of this ministry, please contact Barbara Cummings via phone or text at 775-848-3677, or via email at [email protected] You will receive a weekly prayer list via email (also, there will be a few paper copies of the prayer list available at St. Anthony on Sunday mornings, for those who do not regularly use email). From time to time, you may also receive emails with urgent or otherwise time-sensitive prayer requests, that can’t wait until the next weekly update.
