This Sunday: Greek Parade on Fifth Avenue!
This Sunday, March 30, we'll be marching down Fifth Avenue as a community in the annual Greek Independence Day parade. We're #17 in line, so we're marching towards the front of the parade with other churches in Manhattan—and we are excited about it!

Let's make our presence known! Wear your blue and white and join us as we march. We will have large Greek and American flags, our church banner, and small Greek and American flags. We'll depart from the church after fellowship around 12:30 p.m. If you'd like to meet us at the parade, our meeting point will be East 63rd Street and Madison Avenue at 1 p.m. See you there! 🇬🇷

Exterior Restoration of Saint George: We did it!

As we marked with the Archpastoral Visit with His Eminence Archbishop Elpidophoros, we have completed the major milestones of the exterior restoration at Saint George! This restoration is the result of many years of both fundraising and planning. We would like to thank all who have supported this effort—we are indebted to you!

Stewardship is the cornerstone of giving to the Church. It represents each family’s individual financial commitment to the continuation of the Church, and the collective commitments serve the practical function of allowing our church to meet its expenses.

On Sunday, February 16, we held Stewardship Sunday. Three community members shared what Saint George means to them. The Parish Council distributed Stewardship 2025 brochures. If you would like to learn more about our parish or make a pledge, you can find the brochure here.

The Church’s goal is to completely offset its annual operating expenses through stewardship contributions. Meeting that goal would provide the Church with the stability and sustainability to use funds from fundraisers and other donations to expand ministries and to build existing programs, rather than having to use those proceeds to cover the Church’s operating budget.

Saints and Feasts

March 30

Sunday of St. John Climacus

The memory of this Saint is celebrated on March 30, where his biography may be found. He is celebrated today because his book, The Ladder of Divine Ascent, is a sure guide to the ascetic life, written by a great man of prayer experienced in all forms of the monastic polity; it teaches the seeker after salvation how to lay a sound foundation for his struggles, how to detect and war against each of the passions, how to avoid the snares laid by the demons, and how to rise from the rudimental virtues to the heights of Godlike love and humility. It is held in such high esteem that it is universally read in its entirety in monasteries during the Great Fast.

March 30

John Climacus the Righteous, author of The Divine Ladder of Ascent

This Saint gave himself over to the ascetical life from his early youth. Experienced both in the solitary life of the hermit and in the communal life of cenobitic monasticism, he was appointed Abbot of the Monastery at Mount Sinai and wrote a book containing thirty homilies on virtue. Each homily deals with one virtue, and progressing from those that deal with holy and righteous activity (praxis) unto those that deal with divine vision (theoria), they raise a man up as though by means of steps unto the height of Heaven. For this cause his work is called "The Ladder of Divine Ascent." The day he was made Abbot of Sinai, the Prophet Moses was seen giving commands to those who served at table. Saint John reposed in 603, at eighty years of age. See also the Fourth Sunday of the Fast.

March 31

The Holy Hieromartyr Hypatius, Bishop of Gangra

This Saint, who was from Cilicia of Asia Minor, became Bishop of Gangra, the capital of Paphlagonia. He was present at the First Ecumenical Council. Because of his confession of the Orthodox Faith, he was put to death by the Novatians, a sect which denied that sins committed after Baptism could be forgiven.
