THE DORMITON FAST AND FEAST
08/03/2025
The Dormition Fast began on Friday. In honor of the falling asleep of the Mother of God the Church has established a 14-day fast that begins on August 1st. During this period we offer the Paraklesis service on Tuesday-Friday nights at 7pm. This is an opportunity to honor the Theotokos, as we ask her Son to bless our upcoming Festival. We will celebrate her Feast on Thursday the 14th with Orthros, the Divine Liturgy, and a festal potluck starting at 5:30pm.
PARISH FEAST DAY THIS WEEK
08/03/2025
This week we celebrate the Feast of the Transfiguration of Christ with Great Vespers w/ Litia & Artoklasia at 7pm on Tuesday, and Orthros and Divine Liturgy on Wednesday at 8am. You can bring baskets of grapes, fruit, or produce from your own garden to be blessed at the end of the Liturgy. On Wednesday afternoon, everyone is invited to join us at Glen Alps at 2pm to hike to the top of Blueberry Knoll to chant the troparion of Transfiguration.
VOLUNTEERING AT FESTIVAL
07/27/2025
Our Greek Festival is August 22, 23, and 24. If you are available to help that weekend and do not have a job yet, please get in touch with Liz Papacostas at 717-725-2654. If you already have a job, please let Liz know what you're doing so she can most effectively find and fill gaps.
Many volunteers work all weekend, but we understand that's not realistic for everyone. Knowing which days and times you can work (Friday 2:30 - 9:30, Saturday 10:30 - 3:30 or 3:00 - 9:30, Sunday 10:30 - clean up) helps schedule even staffing where everyone feels useful without being overwhelmed. Many hands make light work!
Thank you so much for all you do for HTGOC!
ICONOGRAPHY TO BE INSTALLED IN AUGUST
08/03/2025
Our Iconographer, Kostas Theodorou, will be with us from August 5th through our Greek Festival to finish the installation of the icons in our church. During this time we will have scaffolding and a scissor lift, and probably a lot of plywood on the floor to protect the marble. Kostas is planning to be finishing up the detail work during Festival so that our guests can watch.
