This Martyr practiced the ascetic discipline in Nisibis of Mesopotamia; she was of such great beauty that the report of her came to the persecutor Selenus, and every attempt was made to make her deny Christ. After many horrible tortures, she was cruelly dismembered by the executioners, then beheaded, in the year 310 (or, according to some, in 302, during the reign of Diocletian).
Today we pray for the repose of the souls of the servants of God Leonidas Dimou (1 year) & Elizabeth Alexander (9 years). May their memory be eternal.

Dear Sunshine/Senior Club, Parishioners and Members,
It’s that time of the year again!
On Tuesday, June 27, 2023, we will be hosting our annual picnic. We have once again, reserved the canopy area at Rush Park located at 3021 Blume Drive, Rossmoor, CA 90720 which is the same location as the years before. We have reserved the canopy area from 11:30 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
The Sunshine/Senior Christian’s club will provide the main course, which consists of hamburgers, hot dogs, condiments, sodas, water and all necessary utensils and supplies needed. This is a putlock style picnic, so we are asking you to bring fruits, salads, desserts, chips, Greek Coffee, or any side dishes that you wish to share with others. Typically, we always plan for 70 – 80 people. Bring a friend, neighbor or your grandchildren, everyone is welcome to join us.
Please note, that if you plan to bring a “furry friend,” the park does not allow animals to be off leash. Also, please remember to pick up after your furry friend.

BACKPACK DRIVE - Summer may be on its way but it is the perfect time to help with the Philoptochos Operation Classroom Project. Last year with your help we were able to donate $5,500 that provided over 200 back packs and supplies to Long Beach children in need. Check your mail as you will be receiving our request for donations soon. A $35 donation will help buy and fill a backpack with supplies for a child in need and also buy books for underprivileged children in Long Beach. All proceeds from this drive are given to various Long Beach philanthropic organizations that assist families in need.
Greek School
Our Greek School is looking to expand its team of teachers for the next school year, 2023-2024. We are in search of caring and enthusiastic individuals who have a strong command of the Greek language and work well with children. Our teachers work collaboratively to deliver meaningful instruction to students. If you or someone you know is interested, please contact the church office or email us at [email protected].

FESTIVAL TIME is just around the corner and Long Beach Festival is truly known for its authentic baked goods. What this means is, baking time is ahead. It is with your hands and heart that we are so successful. Join in the baking fun, learn new recipes and meet new people. We start at 9 am and will be serving lunch. Plans are underway for the SAINT SOPHIA PHILOPTOHOS DEBUTANTE PRESENTATION BALL to be held in mid-January 2024. Interested young ladies who will be high school juniors, seniors or college freshmen (aged 16 and older) by this Fall 2023 should send contact information for parent/sponsor and prospective Debutante via email to [email protected]. An informational meeting will be held at the Saint Sophia Cathedral Huffington Center on Sunday, June 11, 2023 at 5:00 p.m.
