Από τον κόσμο του αθλητισμού. 

Ο Πνευματικός αγώνας συχνά, ακόμα και στην υμνολογία, παρομοιάζεται με τον αγώνα του αθλητή. Και όπως συχνά μιλούμε για τα στεφάνια της νίκης, όταν αναφερόμαστε τόσο στους αθλητές όσο και στους Αγίους, έτσι πολλές φορές γινόμαστε μάρτυρες της αποτυχίας τους. Βλέπουμε τους ειλικρινείς αθλητές να αναλαμβάνουν πλήρως τις ευθύνες τους. Δεν επιδιώκουν να δικαιολογηθούν και να ορίσουν κάποιον άλλο ως υπεύθυνο για την αποτυχία τους. Και, ακόμη, δεν μένουν στην αποτυχία. Η αποτυχία, για αυτούς δεν είνιαι μια καταστροφή, είναι ένα μάθημα και ένα βήμα προς την επιτυχία. Αυτή η τοποθέτηση κάνει τον αθλητή να προοδεύει και να επιτυγχάνει τους στόχους του.

Πόσα χρήσιμα συμπεράσματα μπορεί να βγάλει ο Πιστός! Πόσες φορές ερχόμαστε στο Μυστήριο της μετανοίας, δηλ. την εξομολόγηση, και καταβάλουμε κάθε προσπάθεια για να δικαιολογηθούμε και να πούμε ότι κάποιος άλλος φταίει που αμαρτήσαμε. Ή, ακόμα, η θλίψη μας καταβάλλει τόσο πολύ που δεν έχουμε κουράγιο να συνεχίσουμε τον πνευματικό αγώνα. Αυτό όμως δεν είναι ταπείνωση, το αντίθετο είναι εγωισμός. Ο ταπεινός άνθρωπος, ομολογεί το λάθος, αναλαμβάνει την ευθύνη του, σηκώνεται, και παίρνει αφορμή από αυτό ώστε να συνεχίσει τον αγώνα για την σωτηρία. 

From the sports’ world

The Spiritual struggle is often, even in hymnology, likened to the athlete's struggle. And just as we often talk about the crowns of victory, when referring to both the athletes and the Saints, so we often witness their failure. We see honest athletes taking full responsibility. They do not seek to make excuses and blame someone else for their failure. And yet, they don't remain on failure. Failure, for them, is not a disaster, it is a lesson and a step towards success. This placement makes the athlete progress and achieve their goals.

How many useful conclusions can the Faithful draw! How many times do we come to the Sacrament of repentance, i.e. confession, and make every effort to justify ourselves and say that it is someone else's fault that we have sinned. Or, still, grief overwhelms us so much that we do not have the courage to continue the spiritual struggle. But this is not humiliation, on the contrary, it is selfishness. The humble man, confesses the error, takes responsibility, gets up, and takes cause from it to continue the struggle for salvation.

• Each Sunday’s social hour is chaired by Philoptochos

  A volunteer coordinates a given week’s plan. That means that regardless of experience, anyone can volunteer to provide a snack and be a host.  This is not limited to Philoptchos members or   even just to women!

  Sign up is  available on our website, under the Calendar tab.

  We understand that many parishioners are unable to host, however they want to connect, get involved and enjoy time together after worship. If you’re able, you can always bring something to share with our parish family and Sunday school children. Items picked up during grocery store sales (buy one, get one free) are always appreciated. Also, this is a great way to get non-perishable items to donate to the local food pantry!

  We welcome:

  Ø Baked goods or simple snacks (ready to serve)

  Ø Fruits (cleaned and ready to serve)

  Ø Homemade items (list ingredients to prevent allergy concerns)
