The Reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 10:1-10
BRETHREN, my heart's desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but it is not enlightened. For, being ignorant of the righteousness that comes from God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness. For Christ is the end of the law, that every one who has faith may be justified. Moses writes that the man who practices the righteousness which is based on the law shall live by it. But the righteousness based on faith says, Do not say in your heart, "Who will ascend into heaven?" (that is, to bring Christ down) or "Who will descend into the abyss?" (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart (that is, the word of faith which we preach); because, if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For man believes with his heart and so is justified, and he confesses with his lips and so is saved.

The Reading is from Matthew 8:28-34; 9:1
At that time, when Jesus came to the country of the Gergesenes, two demoniacs met him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce that no one would pass that way. And behold, they cried out, "What have you to do with us, O Son of God? Have you come here to torment us before the time?" Now a herd of many swine was feeding at some distance from them. And the demons begged him, "If you cast us out, send us away into the herd of swine." And he said to them, "Go." So they came out and went into the swine; and behold, the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and perished in the waters. The herdsmen fled, and going into the city they told everything, and what had happened to the demoniacs. And behold, all the city came out to meet Jesus; and when they saw him, they begged him to leave their neighborhood. And getting into a boat he crossed over and came to his own city.
Saint David, who was from Thessalonica, lived a most holy and ascetical life. For some years, he took up his dwelling in the branches of an almond tree, exposed to all the elements and extremes of the weather. He reposed in peace during the reign of Saint Justinian the Great, in the sixth century.
According to one tradition, this icon was painted by Saint Luke the Evangelist. It was formerly situated in the famous Church of Blachernae in Constantinople. In 1383, it appeared upon the waters of Lake Ladoga, whence it travelled miraculously through the air to the city of Tikhvin; there, it remained by the River Tikhvinka, and a monastery was built to shelter the icon. In 1613-14 this monastery miraculously withstood the many attacks of the Swedish invaders. In the early twentieth century it was brought to America and was returned to Russia in 2004. The holy icon is renowned for a great many miracles wrought through it by the all-holy Mother of God, especially for the healing of children.

ETERNAL MEMORY: NICK PAPILLO - Heartfelt condolences are extended to the family of Nick Papillo who reposed in the Lord on Monday, July 3, 2017. Funeral services were conducted from our parish on July 6-7, 2017. May His Memory Be Eternal! ADULT EDUCATION DISCUSSION - Our Orthodox Boot Camp Adult Education continues. We are discussing a treatise written by St. Innocent of Alaska titled "The Indication of The Way Into Heaven." Please let Fr. Peter know if you are unable to physically attend the class, but would like to participate via video conferencing or by telephone. FUND DRIVE FOR AIRCONDITIONING & PARKING LOT - At our parish annual meeting, we decided to allocate the necessary funds to complete the Church Parking Lot and install central airconditioning in the Church. While there is sufficient funds in the Church Treasury to cover the costs, we have decide to have a special fund drive to defray the cost of these projects to allow a bigger cash reserve in case of unforseen expenses or shortfalls in the parish budget. To date, $1985.00 has been already raised for the airconditioning and $10,000 for the Onofrey Parking Lot. If you would like to make a donation please see Fr. Peter or any parish council officer. Thank you for your consideration of this request. COMMUNITY SUPPER - Our next meal will be July 31 at Calvary-St George Church in Bpt. Please See Mary or Eve to help. SUMMER VOLLEYBALL - As a fun summer activity for our parish youth and young ( and not so young!) adults, we will schedule several pick-up games of Volleyball on the Church Grounds during/after coffee hour on the Church lawn. If you are interested in taking part, add your name to the sign-up sheet in the Church Hall and bring a change of clothes with you to church.
