Bring Your Icons to Church for Sunday of Orthodoxy!
Sunday School Students and all parishioners are asked to bring a meaningful icon into Church on Sunday March 5th as we celebrate the triumph of Icons in Orthodoxy. For more than one hundred years the Church of Christ was troubled by the persecution of the Iconoclasts of evil belief, beginning in the reign of Leo the Isaurian (717-741) and ending in the reign of Theophilus (829-842). After Theophilus's death, his widow the Empress Theodora (celebrated Feb. 11), together with the Patriarch Methodius (June 14), established Orthodoxy anew. This ever-memorable Queen venerated the icon of the Mother of God in the presence of the Patriarch Methodius and the other confessors and righteous men, and openly cried out these holy words: "If anyone does not offer relative worship to the holy icons, not adoring them as though they were gods, but venerating them out of love as images of the archetype, let him be anathema." Then with common prayer and fasting during the whole first week of the Forty-day Fast, she asked God's forgiveness for her husband. After this, on the first Sunday of the Fast, she and her son, Michael the Emperor, made a procession with all the clergy and people and restored the holy icons, and again adorned the Church of Christ with them.
Oratorical Festival
The Local St. John Chrysostom Oratorical Festival will be held on Sunday March 12th at 1:30 pm in the Church Sanctuary. All children in 7th grade to 12th grade are asked to participate. Please see Fr. Paul and Rob for topics, speech requirements, and resources for writing and delivering a speech! We will have coaching workshops on Sunday February 19th and March 5th at 3:00 pm.
Dynamis Meetings!
Metropolitan Alexios is holding "Dynamis" meetings around the Metropolis. These meetings are billed as discussions of how to strengthen parishes and parishioners in which attendees can "experience new resources, receive spiritual food, and join the dialogue of how we can help you with your critical work." All parishioners are invited. Father Paul and Parish Council members will be attending the meeting in Greensboro at 6:30 pm on March 21st. Please notify the church office if you would like to attend.
OCF Students Need Places to Stay!
The Annual OCF Regional Retreat will be taking place here at Holy Trinity February 25th and 26th! We are excited to welcome the future of our Church from around North Carolina and beyond. Rather than making the poor starving college students pay for a hotel, we are asking if anyone who would be able to offer housing that day to offer their φιλοξενία (Hospitality). Please contact the Church Office if you are able to help these soldiers in Christ. htraleighoffice@gmail.com or (919)-781-4548

Then, some members from our Hellenic dance group will entertain us with a couple traditional dances. In addition, we will be serving a nice Lenten luncheon. The advanced adults tickets will be $15.00 each {$18.00 for day of the event}. The kids lunch will have fish-sticks instead of the shrimp. The advanced kid tickets {12 and under} will be $6.00 each {$8.00 for day of the event}. PLEASE help us out and purchase your tickets early. We need to estimate how many meals to prepare.
