FATHER'S DAY RECEPTION

Please join us in the small hall after the Divine Liturgy for coffee hour in honor of all the fathers. A cake provided by an anonymous donor will be offered.


AHEPA

SAN JOSE AHEPA FAMILY DINNER AND GLENDI

The San Jose AHEPA and Daughters of Penelope are hosting the 85th Annual Golden Gate District Convention with headquarters at the Biltmore Hotel and Suites, 2151 Laurelwood Road, Santa Clara.

Everyone is invited to the Dinner and Glendi to be held on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the Hotel. 

No Host Cocktails at 6pm, Dinner at 7pm with Dancing to follow. Cost is $75 per person for the Dinner and Glendi. Dancing only for $20 after 9pm.

ST. ANNA PHILOPTOCHOS NEWS

This year in lieu of the traditional Panagia Luncheon, St. Anna Philoptochos is organizing a parish family fellowship gathering to celebrate the Dormition of the Panagia on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 in the Small Hall immediately following the Liturgy.  The Philoptochos is asking that parishioners, who would like to, bring an appetizer or finger foods to share in this festive event.

FOR THE NEEDS OF THE ALTAR

Sacramental wine has been acquired from St. Anthony’s Monastery in Arizona. This wine is dedicated only to be used for sacraments such as the Proskomide or Artoklasia at St. Nicholas or other Orthodox churches.  It is available for purchase at the bookstore for a $20 donation.  All proceeds go towards the needs of the Altar and will also help support St. Anthony’s Monastery.  Thank you for your support.


NEW CHURCH FACILITY FEES

Commencing Wednesday, February 1, 2017, Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church will institute a Church facility fee to offset the costs for the general maintenance and usage of the Church. The facility fees are listed below:

ADULT CATECHISM CLASS

Adult Catechism classes take place on Thursdays at 6:30pm in the church office boardroom. The classes are open to everyone.  For more information, please call Father Yanni Verginis at 408-476-1214.

To avoid any confusion on our part as we compose and print the Sunday bulletin, we ask that anyone who wishes to include a notice in the Sunday bulletin submit the notice in writing to the office BY THURSDAY NOON!  Please don't wait until the last minute or send a note into the altar on a Sunday morning while the liturgy is in progress.

The reading is from St. Paul's Letter to the Romans 2:10-16.

Brethren, glory and honor and peace for every one who does good, the Jew first and also the Greek. For God shows no partiality. All who have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified. When Gentiles who have not the law do by nature what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. They show that what the law requires is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness and their conflicting thoughts accuse or perhaps excuse them on that day when, according to my gospel, God judges the secrets of men by Christ Jesus.

But mark both their faith, and their obedience. For though they were in the midst of their work (and you know how greedy a thing fishing is), when they heard His command, they delayed not, ... but "they forsook all and followed," ... Leontius, Hypatius, & Theodulus the Martyrs of Syria

This Martyr was from Greece. Being of great bodily stature and strength, he was an illustrious soldier in the Roman legions who had won many victories, and was known for his prudence and sobriety of mind. When it was learned that he gave grain to the poor from the imperial stores, and was moreover a Christian, Hadrian the Governor of Phoenicia sent Hypatius, a tribune, and Theodulus, a soldier, to arrest him. Saint Leontius converted them on the way to Tripolis in Phoenicia, where Hypatius and Theodulus were tormented and beheaded by Hadrian for their confession of Christ. Then Hadrian with many flatteries and many torments strove to turn Leontius from Christ. All his attempts failing, he had Leontius put to such tortures that he died in the midst of them, under Vespasian in the year 73.
